This artwork portrays the friendly aquatic mammals inhabiting the beautiful waters of Citrus County, Florida.
Although our economy benefits from manatee-related tourism, human activities endanger their survival. These gentle creatures, so captivating to visitors, are threatened by pollution, damage from boats, and habitat loss stemming from human actions.
This artwork incorporates layered recycled Florida travel guides, maps, and paper crafted from old Citrus County Chronicles, thus linking the environment, tourism, and local history.
My intent is to draw attention to how our actions ripple through the environment. By turning trash into art, I hope people will think about how we treat nature and why we need to protect these fragile ecosystems that sustain life—manatees and humans alike.
