Out of the Blue
This art quilt, sewn together from discarded cardboard and paper, is both an exploration of materiality and a meditation on life, death, and the intricate relationships that bind us all. The Log Cabin - Barn Raising design, serves as a foundation, echoing the steadfast presence of God through all seasons of life. Each piece of waste material has been carefully transformed, symbolizing the potential for rebirth and transformation that exists in even the most overlooked remnants of life. The materials in the quilt were discarded but then woven together into something new and meaningful, the work also speaks of human connection—the way we, too, can be broken down and rebuilt through our shared experiences.
The colors—blue, yellow, white, and brown—are intentionally chosen for their symbolic meanings representing the delicate harmony between light and dark, life and death, creation and destruction. This piece invites the viewer to reflect on their relationships and asks us to consider how every life, every action, and every interaction leaves an imprint, contributing to the ongoing story of life, death, everything in between, and everything after.
