This work explores gifts of nature and repurposed items in 3-D abstract compositions, intended as altar. An altar provides a focal point, a place for ceremonies. A ceremony once performed alters people forever similarly these objects now serve in a new capacity.
The intent of the work addresses consumption, the love of money and things, versus religious mystical insight, achieved in altered states. The use of keys and hardware placed against softer lace is intended to evoke the necessity of a return to balance with our planet’s resources through defining what’s sacred.
As a mixed media collage artist I draw inspiration from found objects, random ephemera and recycled substrates. Altering common day items provides intrigue, and momentum in problem solving harmonious design.
The foundation of my work is using creativity as a tool for personal growth and discovery. Everything changes, what doors would you like to open or close?
